78 Nigerian Human Trafficking Victims Repatriated from Côte d’Ivoire to Lagos
Successful Return Operation Conducted by NAPTIP
In a significant development, 78 Nigerian victims of human trafficking have been successfully repatriated from Côte d’Ivoire and arrived safely in Lagos State. The group, consisting of 73 women, two men, and three infants, landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport late Saturday night.
Government’s Commitment to Combat Trafficking
The victims were received by Mrs. Binta Bello, Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), who emphasized the agency’s dedication to fighting human trafficking and supporting survivors.
“This is a momentous occasion that marks not only the safe return of our beloved daughters but also reaffirms our commitment to the fight against human trafficking,” stated Mrs. Bello.
Message of Hope and Justice
The NAPTIP chief delivered an emotional welcome message to the survivors:
“To the young women and girls who have just returned, we say welcome home. You were taken far from the safety and dignity you deserve, but today, you are back on Nigerian soil, and you are not alone. Your courage symbolizes hope for thousands of others who may still be in the shadows.”
Mrs. Bello also issued a stern warning to traffickers: “To those who have perpetuated this evil, let today be a reminder that Nigeria will never relent in pursuing justice.”
