Algerian Oil Exports Decline in 2025 Due to OPEC+ Cuts and Strategic Shifts

Algeria’s hydrocarbon exports have seen a noticeable decline at the start of 2025, with both crude oil and refined products affected by OPEC+ production cuts. According to Energy Intelligence data, total exports fell by 4.5% in Q1 2025 compared to the same period last year.

Key Export Figures

Algeria exported an average of 723,000 barrels per day in early 2025, down from 757,000 barrels in 2024. The quarterly comparison shows an even steeper 10% decline, equivalent to 83,000 fewer barrels per day.

Production Stability Despite Export Drop

While exports decreased, domestic production remained stable at 909,000 barrels/day. This reflects Algeria’s compliance with OPEC+ commitments, including a voluntary reduction of 48,000 barrels/day through 2026.

Shift to Refined Products

Refined petroleum products now dominate Algerian exports at 52.2% of total volume, while crude oil accounts for just 33.8%. The country is leveraging its 677,000 barrels/day refining capacity, focusing on naphtha and heating oils.

Top Export Destinations

South Korea leads as Algeria’s top oil buyer (105,000 barrels/day), followed by Spain (96,000) and France (80,000). Despite diplomatic tensions, energy trade with France remains unaffected.

With OPEC+ gradually easing restrictions, Algeria may boost exports in late 2025. Market analysts are watching European and Asian demand trends closely.
