New App ‘Antchito’ Simplifies Employment Record-Keeping for Small Businesses in Malawi

For countless small business owners in Malawi, managing employee records has long been a tedious and risky affair, often reliant on paper receipts and fragile trust. A new, locally developed mobile application now promises to bring this administrative headache into the digital age, offering a secure and streamlined solution.

A Digital Witness for Employers

Virtual Tech, a Malawian technology firm, has launched Antchito, an app specifically designed to help employers manage domestic workers, shop attendants, and casual laborers with greater efficiency and legal security.

Blena Chisenga, managing consultant at Virtual Tech, highlighted the vulnerabilities of the current system. “Many employers rely on trust and manual records,” Chisenga noted, pointing out that this informal approach creates significant risks for both parties. “Antchito acts as your digital witness. It provides clear, undeniable proof of payments made, leave taken, and documents signed, protecting employers from misunderstandings or false claims.”

Solving a Widespread Administrative Challenge

The core mission of Antchito is to eliminate the disputes and financial pitfalls that stem from poor record-keeping. For years, tracking payments, leave balances, and end-of-service benefits has been a persistent challenge for SMEs, often leading to costly disagreements.

This new platform provides a centralized, digital hub where all employment details are recorded safely and transparently. But how does it work in practice?

Comprehensive Financial and Document Management

The app’s robust payment tracking feature allows employers to maintain permanent digital records of all transactions, whether made via Mobile Money, bank transfer, or even manual cash payments—with the option to upload a photo of a receipt as proof.

Perhaps one of its most valuable features is the automatic calculation and accrual of end-of-service benefits. This ensures businesses remain compliant with legal requirements for gratuity and pension contributions, and these benefits can even be paid out directly through the app.

Beyond finances, Antchito simplifies daily operations. It tracks leave requests and balances while storing crucial documents—such as employment contracts and national IDs—in a secure digital vault. Integrated reporting tools then compile this data into accessible summaries, giving employers a clear, instant overview of their workforce.

Availability and Incentives

To encourage adoption, the app includes a “Refer and Earn” program, allowing users to earn commissions by introducing other employers to the platform.

Antchito is now available for download on the Google Play Store, with an iOS version anticipated by the end of the month. Employers interested in learning more can visit antchito.mw.

With this new tool, managing employees is no longer a guessing game. For Malawi’s small businesses, it promises a future where administrative tasks are precise, secure, and decidedly less stressful.
