Rear Admiral Zego says NNC’s infrastructure challenges tackled successfully

Eleme(Rivers), Nov. 21, 2025- Rear Adm. Haruna Zego, the outgoing Commandant, Nigerian Naval College (NNC) in Ebubu, Eleme Local Government Area, Rivers, says that his administration achieved an impressive record in basic infrastructure challenges in the college.

Zego made the remark on Friday during a hand over ceremony organized by the college in his honor.

He was replaced by Commodore Johnson Adewoyina.

The outgoing explained that on assumption of office, he was met with some infrastructure challenges which was limiting smooth training and development of officers.

‘’Some of the challenges that stared at me in the face upon my assumption of office which I urgently addressed ranged from epileptic power supply to poor water supply.

“There were also security challenges, defective facilities at the hostels and officers quarters amongst others.

‘’This did not only impede learning activities but adversely affected living conditions of the entire college community, ‘’ he said.

Zego said his administration’s intervention successfuly tackled about 80 per cent of the infrastructure challenges in the college.

‘We made impactful achievements by installing inverters and solar powered systems in the classrooms to ensure a conducive environment for study during prep time,’’ he said.

Zego said that the installation of solar powered CCTV cameras in strategic locations and solar powered water pumps also boosted security and improved water supply within the college community.

“We also ensured a review of the collage curriculum to enable it effectively address out growing security concerns.

“This review is in fulfillment of spectrum 5 of the NN Total Spectrum Maritime Strategy which deals with land based operations.

“I am proud to say that working with my team of dedicated staff/instructors, we were able to leverage advancement in technology to mitigate about 80 per cent of the problems militating against the training efficiency,’’ he said.

Commending the instructors and other stakeholders for contributions towards the growth of the college, Zego said that the successful passing out of 402 cadets was another milestone achievement by his administration.

He, therefore, charged the cadets to imbibe the knowledge acquired from the trainings provided during his administration to enhance proficiency in the field.
