New Leadership Drives Operational Changes

The sweeping changes were reportedly initiated under the leadership of newly appointed GCEO Bayo Ojulari, marking a strategic move to enhance operational efficiency and transparency within Nigeria’s state-owned oil corporation. This development follows Kyari’s removal from office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on April 2, 2025.

High-Profile Departures

Among the prominent figures affected are:

  • Bala Wunti – Former Chief of National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS)
  • Ibrahim Onoja – Managing Director of the Kaduna Refinery
  • Lawal Sade – Chief Compliance Officer and former MD of NNPC Trading

Increased Female Representation in Leadership

The restructuring has also brought about greater gender diversity in NNPC’s senior management, with notable appointments including:

  • Maryam Idrisu – New Managing Director of NNPC Trading
  • Obioma Abangwu – Chief Liaison Officer for Board Matters

This comprehensive reorganization signals NNPC’s commitment to operational transformation under its new leadership.
