Violent Attack in Mansur Forest Leaves Multiple Dead

At least 10 hunters were killed in a brutal ambush by armed bandits in Mansur Forest, located in the Duguri/Gwana Districts of Alkaleri Local Government Area, Bauchi State, on Sunday.

The victims, comprising professional hunters from Duguri and Gwana Districts, were conducting a routine patrol along the Duguri–Mansur–Dajin Madam Forest corridor—a border area between Bauchi and Plateau States—when they were attacked.

Casualties and Livestock Rustling

Local sources confirmed that four residents from Duguri and five from Mansur lost their lives in the assault. The bandits also seized an unspecified number of cattle and sheep during the raid.

Additional reports indicate that several bandits were killed in the clash, along with villagers from Sabuwar Sara who were caught in the crossfire while attempting to escape.

Police Confirmation and Response

The Bauchi State Police Command verified the incident but did not disclose the exact death toll. In a statement issued on Monday, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Command’s spokesperson, revealed that the attack occurred around 05:40 hours on May 4, 2025 and was reported to the Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters by 09:40 hours.

“A combined team of professional hunters from Duguri and Gwana Districts, while on a routine patrol along Duguri, Mansur, and the Dajin Madam forest, bordering Bauchi and Plateau States, encountered an ambush by armed bandits,” Wakil stated.

He added that the confrontation resulted in multiple casualties on both sides, including vigilante members and the attackers.

Manhunt and Security Measures

The police have launched a specialized manhunt to track down the perpetrators. Tactical teams were dispatched to recover the victims’ bodies, and preliminary investigations confirmed fatalities among both hunters and fleeing villagers.

Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has deployed additional security forces to Mansur village and met with community leaders. He condemned the killings as “utterly reprehensible” and vowed to bring the culprits to justice.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and assure the public of our commitment to a thorough investigation,” Aliyu said.
