South Sudan VP Taban Deng Issues Strong Warning Against Peace Spoilers
Government Takes Tough Stance on Lawlessness
South Sudan’s Vice President and Chairperson of the Infrastructure Cluster, Taban Deng Gai, has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups threatening national peace and stability. The government has declared it will take a tougher stance against lawlessness this year.
Vice President’s Strong Message in Lakes State
During his arrival in Awerial County, Lakes State on Thursday, May 8, Vice President Taban emphasized the government’s determination to uphold the rule of law and restore public order nationwide.
“The government is angry this year. If someone attacks someone, the government will come for you. This is how the rule of law works,” Taban stated firmly.
End to Revenge Attacks and Communal Violence
The Vice President made clear that cycles of revenge attacks and communal violence would no longer be tolerated. Security forces have been directed to respond swiftly and decisively to any disturbances.
“If you committed an offence, the government will come after you. Soon, we will go back to the way we used to live, when people walked with a stick and spear to fend off wild animals and protect their cattle,” he declared.
Modern Security Measures to Enforce Peace
Drawing a contrast between traditional life and modern state power, Taban warned that no individual or community should take justice into their own hands. The government will deploy its full security capabilities to maintain order.
“No one will attack someone because you attack someone; the army will come to protect you. Gunship will come for you, and even the drone mentioned by the commissioner will also come after you,” he added.
Government’s Ongoing Security Reforms
The Vice President’s remarks come as the government continues efforts to contain intercommunal violence and strengthen civilian protection through comprehensive security sector reforms.
