New Headquarters to Enhance Police Operations

The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Kayode Egbetokun, officially commissioned a state-of-the-art police headquarters in Adamawa on Thursday, marking a significant upgrade to the state’s security infrastructure.

During the inauguration ceremony, Egbetokun emphasized that the new facility represents the government’s commitment to improving police welfare and operational efficiency.

“We now have a befitting headquarters worthy of our brave and dedicated officers. This complex is more than just a physical structure – it symbolizes our commitment to serving and protecting our communities,” the I-G stated.

Commitment to Modern Policing

The police chief assured that his administration would continue equipping officers with necessary skills, knowledge, and logistics for effective policing. He acknowledged the support of stakeholders, partners, and community leaders in completing the project.

Command Achievements and Challenges

Adamawa Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris praised the I-G for prioritizing officer welfare, noting the new headquarters would solve accommodation challenges and boost morale.

Morris highlighted the command’s recent successes:

  • 6,444 personnel serving in the state
  • 120 crime suspects apprehended this year
  • 60 major cases recorded
  • 4 kidnapped victims rescued without ransom payments

The CP credited these achievements to officer dedication, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s support, inter-agency collaboration, and community partnerships.

Ongoing Security Challenges

Despite progress, Morris identified several operational challenges:

  • Kidnapping in border areas with difficult terrain
  • Insufficient operational vehicles
  • Deteriorating police barracks
  • Manpower shortages

The commissioner appealed to the I-G for assistance in addressing these issues to further enhance the command’s capabilities.
