Senators Call Citizens to Continue Combating Genocide Ideology
Kigali, Rwanda – On March 29, 2025, Rwandan senators joined citizens across all districts in the monthly community work “Umuganda,” delivering a powerful message about combating genocide ideology and preparing for the 31st commemoration of the Genocide Against the Tutsi.
National Unity in Action
The senators’ participation was designed to strengthen community connections, engage with residents, and address local concerns. Activities focused on two key areas:
- Cleaning and maintaining genocide memorial sites
- Constructing terraces for soil protection and road maintenance
A Call to Vigilance
During community meetings, senators emphasized the importance of unity and the ongoing fight against genocide ideology. They specifically addressed the need to counter denialism on social media platforms, which have become primary tools for genocide deniers.
The President of the Senate, Right Honorable Kalinda François Xavier, made a clear statement: “Rwandans must prevent and combat genocide ideology both within our country and throughout the region.”
Community Engagement
The day concluded with interactive sessions where citizens could ask questions and share ideas with senators about social affairs and government development programs.
