Kalonzo: Azimio Ended When Raila Signed the UDA-ODM Pact

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition defunct, attributing its collapse to Raila Odinga’s recent political agreement with President William Ruto’s UDA party.
Speaking on April 3, 2025, Kalonzo stated the coalition effectively ended when ODM formalized ties with Kenya Kwanza at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
“Whatever was Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party—and this is unfortunate but true—ended when ODM signed the agreement with Kenya Kwanza outside KICC,” Kalonzo declared.
Wiper’s Departure from Azimio
The former vice president confirmed Wiper Democratic Movement’s exit from the coalition that backed Raila’s 2022 presidential bid, stating: “We must be realistic—Wiper cannot remain alone in Azimio.”
Maintaining Respect Amid Political Shifts
Despite the political realignment, Kalonzo emphasized his continued respect for Raila:
“Nobody will ever hear me attacking Raila Amollo Odinga because that’s not my DNA. We’ve developed personal relationships and mutual respect over years.”

Jubilee’s Contradictory Position
Jubilee Party, another Azimio member, maintains the coalition still exists. Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni stated:
“The Azimio agreement remains legally binding. Just because ODM left doesn’t invalidate it for the remaining 23 parties.”
Kioni revealed Jubilee’s readiness to assume opposition leadership within Azimio following ODM’s departure.
