The announcement came during the inauguration of a committee tasked with organizing the inaugural Africa Chiefs of Defence Summit, scheduled for June 18-19 in Abuja.

Strategic Gathering for Continental Security

Gen. Musa described the upcoming summit as “a defining moment for Nigeria as a leading force in Africa’s defence and security landscape.” The event will bring together:

  • Military leaders from across Africa
  • Defence industry experts
  • Strategic contractors

With the theme “Advancing Africa’s Security with Strategic Defence Procurement and Cooperation,” the summit aims to reshape regional defence collaboration and procurement strategies.

Committee Charged with Excellence

The CDS emphasized the importance of meticulous planning, urging committee members to:

  • Approach the task with diligence
  • Think innovatively and creatively
  • Ensure seamless coordination
  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving

“This summit has to be a grand and remarkable event, one befitting of Nigeria’s status as a continental giant,” Gen. Musa stated.

Committee Chairman Responds

Retired Major-General Olufemi Akinjobi, the committee chairman, praised the initiative as timely for African defence chiefs to enhance dialogue. He pledged the committee’s full commitment to delivering an outstanding event.

This historic gathering represents Nigeria’s growing leadership in military diplomacy and marks a significant step in advancing pan-African security cooperation.
