Agriculture Minister Condemns Brikama Council Leadership
The Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Demba Sabally, has launched a scathing critique against Yankuba Darboe, Chairman of the Brikama Area Council, labeling him as unqualified to drive regional development.
During a National People’s Party (NPP) gathering in Rumba Village, Sabally accused Darboe of fostering division and violence rather than progress.
Allegations of Poor Governance
“Chairman Darboe has demonstrated disruptive behavior since the ‘Three Years Jotna’ incident,” Sabally stated. “He lacks the vision and character needed for West Coast Region’s development, consistently promoting chaos instead.”
The Minister specifically criticized new tax policies implemented by Darboe’s council, claiming they disproportionately affect the region’s poorest residents.
Political Future and Development Promises
Sabally confirmed President Barrow’s intention to seek a third term, dismissing opposition calls for his resignation. “President Barrow will contest and win again, just as he defeated Jammeh and Darboe before,” he declared.
The Minister made development commitments to Rumba Village residents, promising improved infrastructure and electrification by 2025/2026.
Criticism of Opposition Parties
Sabally lambasted the United Democratic Party (UDP) for poor service delivery in councils under their control. “If UDP can’t manage basic waste collection, how can they deliver electricity?” he questioned.
Defending President Barrow’s religious commitments, Sabally highlighted the president’s personal funding of mosque constructions and support for imams during COVID-19.
