Maraga Calls for Youth Political Participation

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has challenged Kenyan youth to shift from online and street activism to active political participation. Speaking at the Kenya Ideas Festival in Nairobi, the 2027 presidential aspirant emphasized that real change comes from holding leadership positions.

“Young people can bring the change they want in Kenya if they clinch leadership positions during elections,” Maraga stated during the April 7, 2025 event.

Intergenerational Support for Leadership Transition

The former CJ called on older generations to support youth political ambitions: “Those of us from the older generation must support the youth to be at the helm of implementing change. We need young people not just on the streets and online, but in county assemblies, parliament and public institutions.”

“I worry about the future the country holds for our children and grandchildren. We must dismantle the barriers that keep young people out of leadership.”

Political Momentum Builds for Maraga

Maraga recently received significant political backing when his Bonyamatuta clan endorsed his 2027 presidential bid. Over 250 clan members and opinion leaders gathered at Ibara Viongozi Kebirigo Pastoral Centre to bless his political ambitions.

The former Chief Justice has dismissed rumors circulating on social media that he’s President William Ruto’s project, maintaining his independent candidacy. He joins a growing list of potential challengers including Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, Martha Karua, and Okiya Omtatah.
