AfriForum Welcomes US Government’s Condemnation of “Kill the Boer” Chant
AfriForum has applauded the United States government’s recent condemnation of the controversial “Kill the Boer” chant, which has sparked heated debates in South Africa.
US Embassy Takes Firm Stance Against Controversial Chant
The US Embassy in Pretoria issued a strong statement this week: “Let’s be clear: ‘Kill the Boer’ is a chant that incites violence against ethnic minorities. The EFF is propagating racial hate with this chant. It must stop.” This position comes despite a recent Constitutional Court ruling that the chant doesn’t constitute hate speech.
The Afrikaner lobby group also highlighted potential implications of a new US bill that might target ANC leaders.
AfriForum’s Ongoing Battle Against the Chant
AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel stated: “The unspoken approval of slogans such as ‘Kill the Boer’ and the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act (Bela Act), which targets Afrikaans schools and threatens Afrikaans cultural communities, are serious human rights violations.” He also referenced the Zondo Commission’s findings on ANC corruption.
Lobby Group Takes Fight to United Nations
Expressing concern about ANC leaders’ alleged ties with Hamas and Iran, Kriel emphasized: “ANC leaders caused this crisis. They must now implement policy changes including a foreign policy review and stronger protections for minority rights.”
Following the Constitutional Court’s dismissal of their appeal, AfriForum announced plans to escalate the matter to the United Nations, seeking to have the chant classified as hate speech.
