Guinean Opposition Leader Visits Expelled Citizens at Senegal-Mauritania Border
UFDG President Shows Solidarity with Deported Nationals
Rosso, Senegal-Mauritania Border – Cellou Dalein Diallo, president of Guinea’s opposition party UFDG, made a significant humanitarian visit to the Senegal-Mauritania border on April 24. Accompanied by his wife Halimatou, the politician met with hundreds of Guinean citizens who had been expelled from Mauritania.
Desperate Conditions at the Border
In a Facebook post, Diallo described the dire situation: “There are more than 300 Guineans living in total destitution on both mosquito-infested banks of the Senegal River.” The expelled citizens have reportedly been stranded for three months while attempting to return home.
The politician highlighted the vulnerable groups among the displaced, including “women, some pregnant or working as nannies, emaciated children, and elderly citizens” who continue praying for assistance to return to Guinea.
Documenting the Humanitarian Crisis
Diallo shared numerous photographs capturing both the joy of his visit and the harsh realities faced by his compatriots. The images show the mixed emotions of citizens stranded far from their homeland.
This visit marks a significant political and humanitarian gesture by one of Guinea’s prominent opposition leaders during an ongoing migration crisis in West Africa.
