Strengthening Zambia-China Health Collaboration

Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata expressed gratitude for China’s contribution, emphasizing the historical significance of Chinese traditional medicine in improving health outcomes. “This symposium provides a platform for experts from both nations to exchange knowledge and strengthen cooperation in the health sector,” she stated.

Mulyata highlighted that the partnership would not only enhance healthcare delivery but also foster cultural exchange and economic growth between the two countries.

Zambia’s Commitment to International Health Cooperation

Representing the Ministry of Health, Dr. Lisulo Walubita (Director of Clinical Care and Diagnostic Services) underscored the importance of international collaboration in healthcare development. He noted Zambia’s interest in partnering with Sichuan pharmaceutical companies to boost local manufacturing and develop solutions for Africa’s health challenges.

“This collaboration offers mutual benefits in technology transfer, joint ventures, capacity building, and research on tropical diseases,” Dr. Walubita explained. He added that Zambia is open to integrating Traditional Chinese Medicine where it aligns with local cultural practices.

Deepening Bilateral Ties

Wang Sheng, Minister Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, described the Sichuan delegation’s visit as evidence of growing Zambia-China relations, which began with a 2017 Memorandum of Understanding. Sheng highlighted China’s previous contributions, including support for the Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital and COVID-19 relief efforts.

This health initiative follows China’s longstanding engagement in Zambia’s development, including significant investments by the Chinese community in the country.
