Niger National Guard Arrests Four in Major Arms and Narcotics Bust in Diffa
Large-Scale Operation Leads to Seizure of Weapons and Drugs
Diffa, Niger – The Diffa regional division of the Niger National Guard (GNN) has successfully arrested four individuals in possession of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and narcotics during a high-profile security operation, according to an official source from the ANP.
The operation, conducted across multiple locations in the Diffa region, resulted in the confiscation of war weapons, assorted ammunition, and a substantial quantity of illegal drugs. Three of the suspects were found with firearms, including AK47 rifles, while the fourth was caught with a shipment of narcotics intended for distribution.
Governor Commends Security Forces
Brigadier General Mahamadou Ibrahim Bagadoma, Governor of Diffa, visited the National Guard headquarters on April 17, 2025, to commend the unit for their professionalism and dedication. The operation was a result of precise intelligence and targeted patrols in areas such as Kandilawa, Garin Dogo, and along the Issari-Diffa axis.
Key Arrests and Seizures
The most notable arrest occurred on April 16, 2025, approximately 45km beyond Nguel Kolo, where security forces intercepted a suspect vehicle carrying:
- An AK47 rifle
- Five 7.62 x 39mm cartridges
- 22 RPG7 shells
- 19 RPG7 charges
- 413 rounds of 14.5mm ammunition
- 16 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition
One of the arrested individuals is a known repeat offender with prior involvement in criminal activities.
Government Support and Community Collaboration
Governor Bagadoma emphasized the importance of vigilance and collaboration between security forces and local communities to enhance intelligence gathering. He also conveyed the government’s appreciation on behalf of President Abdourahamane Tiani and Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine.
“This seizure demonstrates the unwavering commitment of our defense forces in combating crime across Diffa,” stated Governor Bagadoma during a ceremony honoring the security personnel.
