Corporal Ebrima Jammeh, a Gambian soldier recently dismissed from the army after a viral TikTok video, broke down in tears while recounting his sick mother’s condition and pleading for public assistance.

The Incident That Cost Him His Career

The 18-year army veteran was detained for weeks after posting a video expressing concerns about the high cost of living in The Gambia while wearing his military uniform. Jammeh, who enlisted in 2007, explained he made the video out of patriotism.

“If I had known that the video would cause me this problem, I wouldn’t have made it while in uniform. I didn’t know it was against army ethics,” Jammeh said through tears.

Family Crisis After Dismissal

The timing of his dismissal coincided with his mother’s deteriorating health. “The day my mother called me about her high blood pressure relapse was the day I was arrested,” Jammeh revealed.

As the family’s sole breadwinner, Jammeh faces an uncertain future: “I have no other job to take care of my family. To be dismissed empty-handed after 18 years of service is very painful.”

Seeking Answers and Assistance

Jammeh questions the army’s decision: “I can’t understand how a corporal can be dismissed without tangible reasons.” He’s requesting official documentation explaining his termination while appealing for public support.

“I had this problem out of my love for the country. So, anyone who can help me, please do so,” the former soldier pleaded.
