Emergency Rule: Tinubu Acted in National Interest – TDF

Abuja, Nigeria – The Democratic Front (TDF) has joined other patriotic groups in defending President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State, calling it a necessary measure to maintain national security.

TDF Supports Presidential Action

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its leadership team – Chairman Malam Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary Chief Wale Adedayo – the TDF described the emergency rule as:

• A bold move to prevent total breakdown of law and order
• Necessary response to prolonged political crisis
• Action taken in the national interest

Background to the Crisis

The group recalled that President Tinubu had previously hosted the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) leadership in Abuja, urging compliance with the Supreme Court judgment recognizing the 27 members of the Rivers State Assembly.

“Unfortunately, PANDEF couldn’t broker a compromise between the warring parties,” the statement noted, adding that the political standoff had paralyzed state administration for nearly two years with severe economic consequences.

Justification for Emergency Rule

The TDF argued that no responsible government could remain passive while witnessing:

• The degeneration of democratic order
• Ongoing lawlessness in the state
• Pipeline bombings and security threats

“We welcome the National Assembly’s unanimous approval of the emergency rule,” the statement continued. “President Tinubu clearly acted in the interest of peace and security for Rivers State residents.”

Call for Reconciliation

The TDF urged all parties to use the six-month emergency period as an opportunity to peacefully resolve their differences through dialogue and constitutional means.
