Equity Bank Uganda Launches Fourth Cohort of Leadership Program for 100 Scholars
Comprehensive Leadership Development Initiative Expands Opportunities for Ugandan Students
Kampala, Uganda – Equity Bank Uganda has welcomed 100 new scholars into its prestigious Equity Leaders Program (ELP), marking the fourth cohort of this transformative initiative. These students join 319 previously admitted scholars selected based on outstanding Uganda Advanced Certification of Education (UACE) examination results.

The Equity Leaders Program, operating across Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and DR Congo, offers a comprehensive leadership development package including:
- Paid internships with Equity Bank
- Personalized mentorship from industry leaders
- Professional coaching and career guidance
- Support for higher education locally and internationally
Leadership Development for Africa’s Future
Equity Bank Uganda Managing Director Gift Shoko emphasized the program’s transformative impact: “This initiative equips scholars with critical thinking, business acumen, and leadership skills that benefit both individuals and communities.”
The program’s unique structure includes:
- 3-6 month paid internships with monthly stipends
- Three-month college counseling program
- Continued mentorship throughout university education
Program Impact and Success Stories
Since its inception in 1998, the ELP has achieved remarkable results:
- 29,515 university scholars supported
- 970 scholars admitted to top global universities
- 204 placements in Ivy League institutions
- 9,700 paid internships facilitated
In January 2025 alone, 29 scholars from the first cohort graduated, with several now employed by Equity Bank and others pursuing diverse careers.
