EU and Germany Boost West African Security Education with ICT Donation to National Defence College

Abuja, Nigeria – The European Union and German Government have significantly enhanced defence and security education in West Africa through a major donation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to Nigeria’s National Defence College (NDC).

Strategic Partnership for Regional Security

The advanced equipment, delivered through the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, positions the NDC’s Centre for Strategic Research and Studies as a premier ECOWAS Centre of Excellence. The donation includes:

  • Newline 75″ Interactive Screens (TT-7522Z-UC model)
  • Digital Simultaneous Language Interpretation Systems
  • Digital IR Language Distribution Systems
  • High-performance computers and printers

Modernizing Military Education

Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, Commandant of the NDC, emphasized the transformative impact of this donation: “These state-of-the-art ICT tools will modernize our training capabilities and ensure our staff can effectively address today’s complex security challenges.”

The NDC, as Nigeria’s highest military institution and a regional center of excellence, provides strategic-level training for senior military and civilian officers from across West Africa. Admiral Olotu noted the equipment would enhance the college’s capacity to develop solutions for the ECOWAS subregion’s security challenges.

International Commitment to Regional Stability

Dr. Karin Jansen, Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy in Nigeria, stated: “This donation reflects our shared commitment to peace, security and development in West Africa. The equipment will support ECOWAS’s Peace, Security, and Governance Project by strengthening digital capabilities across training centers.”

The EU’s Acting Head of Cooperation, Mr. Reuben Alba, highlighted the timing of this initiative: “Institutions like the NDC must continuously adapt to global challenges. These tools will improve education quality for current and future regional leaders.”

ECOWAS Appreciation

Dr. Cyriaque Agnekethom, ECOWAS Director of Peacekeeping and Regional Security, commended the German and EU governments for their consistent support in enhancing West African security infrastructure. He reaffirmed ECOWAS’s commitment to implementing all partner-sponsored projects that promote regional peace and development.

This strategic donation marks a significant step in digitalizing military education and strengthening collaborative security frameworks across West Africa.
