FG Places N5 Million Bounty on Inmates Who Escaped from Osun Prison

By Esther Odili – The Federal Government has announced a N5 million reward for information leading to the recapture of seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State.
How the Prison Break Occurred
The escape happened in the early hours of Tuesday, May 20, following heavy rainfall that caused the collapse of a section of the facility’s perimeter wall. According to the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), the breach occurred around 2:00 a.m.
Government’s Response
In a statement signed by Deputy Controller of Corrections Umar Abubakar, the NCoS urged the public to report any sightings of the escaped inmates to security agencies. The service guaranteed confidentiality for informants.
“A reward of N5 million is being offered to anyone who provides useful information that leads to the recapture of the fleeing inmates,” the statement read.

Related Prison Break Incident
This comes after another jailbreak in Kogi State where 12 inmates escaped. The government has since recaptured five of them, with investigations ongoing into both incidents.
The Federal Government has launched a nationwide manhunt for the remaining escapees from both facilities.
