LILONGWE, Malawi – Finance Minister Simplex Chithyola has secured a decisive victory in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) primaries for Kasungu South constituency, garnering 2,216 votes.

The incumbent MP defeated two challengers, with Joseph Manguluti receiving 112 votes and Mtunduwatha Chimbalu securing just 35 votes in the party’s internal elections.

This victory positions Chithyola as the MCP’s parliamentary candidate for the September 16 general elections, marking a significant step in his political career.

“We have become victorious and I thank the people of Kasungu South for trusting me,” Chithyola told reporters after his win. “I will continue to serve them in the next 5 years.”
