Motion to Investigate Former President’s Asset Sales
Majority Leader Hon. Billay G. Tunkara has announced his intention to table a motion in the National Assembly, calling for the creation of a Special Select Committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the sale of former President Yahya Jammeh’s assets.
Newspaper Revelations Prompt Action
The decision comes after The Republic newspaper published investigative reports raising serious concerns about the transparency and handling of the asset sales process.
“In wake of the serious revelations regarding the alleged inappropriate sales of the assets of former President Yahya Jammeh, I have today submitted a formal notice of intention to the Clerk of the National Assembly to introduce a motion in the National Assembly for the Assembly to consider establishing a Special Select Committee to impartially conduct a full inquiry into the matter with a view to establishing the whole truth,” Tunkara stated.
Next Steps in the Investigation
The Clerk’s Office has been instructed to assist in preparing the motion, which is expected to be presented during the National Assembly’s June session. Tunkara emphasized his commitment to seeing the investigation through to its conclusion.
“My office, together with all the members supporting this initiative, shall do all it takes to pursue the matter to its conclusion for the interest of transparency and accountability,” he affirmed.
