The former leader, in what observers describe as an uncharacteristic outburst, specifically targeted Dr. Samura Kamara, the APC’s defeated presidential candidate in both 2018 and 2023. Koroma labeled Kamara as “unreliable and selfish” in the leaked audio conversation.

Koroma went further to accuse Dr. Kamara of orchestrating negative social media campaigns against him through supporters-turned-bloggers. The former president’s comments highlight growing tensions within the opposition party.

Koroma’s Plans to Return from Exile

In the same leaked conversation with a veteran APC member, the former president revealed his intention to return to Sierra Leone from his self-imposed exile in Nigeria. Koroma expressed his desire to resume normal life in his home country.

Legal Situation Remains Unclear

Meanwhile, Sierra Leone’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice has stated that he has no knowledge of any ECOWAS-mediated negotiations regarding Koroma’s potential return. The minister emphasized that Koroma’s court case – involving four counts related to the alleged November 26, 2023 coup attempt – would proceed once the former president concludes his medical treatment in Nigeria.

Despite government statements, several opposition-leaning newspapers continue to speculate about Koroma’s imminent return to Sierra Leone, keeping the political atmosphere charged.
