Julius Malema Vows to Continue Land Expropriation Fight, Slams Colonial Legacy

Julius Malema Vows EFF Will Continue Land Expropriation Fight Without Compensation

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has reaffirmed his party’s commitment to land expropriation without compensation during a fiery speech at the EFF Land Reclamation Day event in Johannesburg.

“We Are Here to Take the Land Back” – Malema

Addressing supporters at Sophiatown Extreme Park, Malema declared: “We are here to claim the land which was stolen from our ancestors. We are here to finish the work of those who were displaced, silenced and buried. We are here to take the land back, without fear of compensation.”

The EFF leader framed 1652 as a pivotal year in South African history, marking not the beginning of the country’s story but rather “the beginning of dispossession” when Dutch settlers arrived.

Malema’s Historical Perspective on Land Dispossession

Malema provided a detailed historical account of colonial settlement:

“The 6th of April 1652 is when the European colonial project began on the southern tip of Africa. Jan van Riebeeck arrived at the Cape, sent by the Dutch East India Company. He did not come as a tourist or refugee, but as an agent of European imperialism.”

The EFF leader described how Dutch settlers transformed from merchants to landowners through force:

“They pushed the Khoi and San people off their ancestral grazing lands. They erected fences, brought disease, killed, raped, enslaved, and dispossessed.”

EFF’s Continued Opposition to Current Land Policies

Malema confirmed his party’s rejection of the Expropriation Bill signed earlier this year, vowing that the EFF would continue its fight for radical land reform.

The former ANC Youth League leader’s speech emphasized that land reclamation remains a cornerstone of the EFF’s political agenda.
