Julius Malema Rejects DA and FF Plus in GNU, Open to ANC Coalition
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has reaffirmed his party’s refusal to collaborate with the Democratic Alliance (DA) or the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) in a potential National Government of Unity (GNU).
Malema’s Conditions for GNU Participation
Addressing supporters in Sophiatown, Malema stated the EFF would only consider joining forces with the African National Congress (ANC) in a GNU if the DA and FF Plus are excluded. He labeled these parties as “enemies of the poor” and progress.
“We will never work in a government that includes the DA or Freedom Front Plus. These are the people who killed our own people. If you don’t know what the enemy looks like, just look at DA and FF Plus.”
Malema added: “If the ANC wants our support because they lack numbers, they must remove the DA first. Only then will we consider working together.”
Land Reform as Key Issue
The EFF leader emphasized land ownership as critical to South Africa’s stability, stating peace is impossible while land remains concentrated among minorities.
“Our people want land, dignity, and solutions to poverty and crime. You can only achieve this when people own land. As long as land remains in minority hands, there will never be peace.”
This stance continues the EFF’s long-standing position on land expropriation without compensation.
Political Strategy Behind the Stance
Malema’s comments follow his 2023 statement that the EFF planned to let the ANC and DA conflict before positioning itself in the GNU. This latest declaration reinforces the party’s strategic positioning ahead of potential coalition negotiations.
