U-17 Football Team’s Continental Success

The Malian under-17 national football team, Les Aiglonnets, secured a silver medal at the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco (March 28 – April 19). Their impressive performance earned qualification for the 2025 U-17 World Cup in Qatar this November. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is collaborating with the Malian Football Federation to prepare the team for this global competition.

Participation in UN ECOSOC Youth Forum

Mali actively participated in the ECOSOC Youth 2025 Forum (April 15-17) in New York, themed “Youth at the Forefront of Innovation”. The delegation highlighted government programs supporting youth employment, financial inclusion, and civic participation. This engagement helped expand Mali’s international partnerships for youth development initiatives.

Cultural Sector Developments

Voluntary Insurance for Cultural Workers

The government launched a Voluntary Insurance for Culture program, a social security scheme benefiting private sector workers in culture, handicrafts, and tourism. This initiative aligns with President Goita’s vision for improved healthcare coverage and national solidarity, aiming to reach one million beneficiaries annually.

Timbuktu 2025 Artistic and Cultural Biennial

The national government announced plans for the Timbuktu 2025 Artistic and Cultural Biennial, Mali’s largest cultural competition featuring all 19 regions and Bamako District. The event will occur in three phases (July, September, December 2025) under the theme “Culture, a foundation for the anchoring of the 4th Republic”.

Public Health Update

The Minister of Health reported a concerning rise in dengue fever cases. President Goita urged citizens to strictly follow preventive health measures to control disease transmission.
