Two Moroccan Films Compete at the 15th Malmö Arab Film Festival in Sweden
Moroccan Cinema Shines at Prestigious European Festival
April 29 – May 5, 2024: Two acclaimed Moroccan films have been selected to compete at the 15th edition of the Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAAF) in Sweden. The festival, running from April 29 to May 5, showcases the best of Arab cinema in Europe.
The Competing Films
The Moroccan entries include:
- “Everybody Loves Touda” by Nabil Ayouch (Feature Film Competition)
- “Chikha” by Zahoua Raji and Ayoub Layoussifi (Short Film Competition)
Film Synopses
“Everybody Loves Touda” tells the emotional story of a young woman aspiring to become a chikha (traditional singer), whose life takes unexpected turns. The film explores themes of tradition, dreams, and personal transformation.
“Chikha” (short film) delves into Morocco’s Aïta musical tradition through the story of 17-year-old Fatine, who struggles between continuing her family’s artistic legacy and pursuing a conventional path after high school.
About the Malmö Arab Film Festival
Since its founding in 2011, MAAF has grown into one of Europe’s most important platforms for Arab cinema. The festival aims to:
