The Nigerian military has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering stronger defence cooperation across Africa, according to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa.

Gen. Musa made this declaration while inaugurating a committee to plan the inaugural Africa Chiefs of Defence Summit, scheduled for June 18-19 in Abuja. The high-profile event will bring together military leaders from across the continent to discuss strategic defence cooperation.

Nigeria’s Leadership in Continental Security

“The summit will be a defining moment for Nigeria as a leading force in Africa’s defence and security landscape,” Gen. Musa stated. He emphasized that the committee’s work would establish the foundation for enhanced military diplomacy and strengthened defence ties across Africa.

The CDS charged the planning committee with delivering an exceptional event, saying: “This summit has to be a grand and remarkable event, one befitting of Nigeria’s status as a continental giant. It will bring together military leaders from across Africa and we must ensure it reflects our nation’s excellence, strength and organizational prowess.”

Committee Charged with Excellence

Gen. Musa urged the committee to approach their task with innovation and meticulous planning: “You must think innovatively, embrace creativity and incorporate fresh ideas that will make this event not just successful but truly unforgettable.”

He emphasized the need for effective coordination with relevant agencies and the establishment of robust communication channels to ensure the summit’s success.
