Nigeria to Host Historic Africa Chiefs of Defence Summit
The Nigerian military has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening defence cooperation across Africa, according to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa.
Speaking during the inauguration of a planning committee for the inaugural Africa Chiefs of Defence Summit, Gen. Musa described the June 18-19 event in Abuja as “a defining moment for Nigeria as a leading force in Africa’s defence and security landscape.”
Summit Objectives
The high-profile gathering aims to:
- Strengthen military cooperation across Africa
- Enhance defence ties between nations
- Solidify Nigeria’s leadership in military diplomacy
Preparations Underway
Gen. Musa charged the committee to approach their task with utmost diligence, emphasizing the need for meticulous planning to ensure the summit reflects Nigeria’s status as a continental leader.
“This summit has to be a grand and remarkable event, one befitting of Nigeria’s status as a continental giant. You must think innovatively, embrace creativity and incorporate fresh ideas that will make this event not just successful but truly unforgettable,” the CDS stated.

Retired Maj.-Gen. Olufemi Akinjobi, chairman of the planning committee, praised the initiative as timely for fostering dialogue among Africa’s defence chiefs. He pledged the committee’s commitment to delivering an outstanding event.
