In a major step toward agricultural transformation, the NNPC Foundation has launched an ambitious training program targeting 6,000 vulnerable farmers across Nigeria. The initiative aims to equip participants with modern farming techniques and sustainable practices to enhance food security.
Program Launch in Oyo State
The opening ceremony took place at Ilora Baptist Grammar School in Idi-Igba, Oyo State, on Tuesday. Dr. Bala David, Managing Director of NNPC Ltd Foundation, emphasized the program’s focus on addressing critical challenges such as limited access to quality inputs, climate-resilient farming methods, and post-harvest loss reduction.
“We must acknowledge the pressing reality of food insecurity in Nigeria,” said Dr. David. “Through this initiative, we will train farmers in modern, climate-smart techniques, soil and water management, and organic fertilization to boost productivity.”
Phase One Success and Expansion Plans
The first phase of the program successfully trained farmers in the Southeast, Southsouth, and Southwest regions, with interactive sessions conducted in local dialects for better engagement. Notably, the Southeast region exceeded expectations by training 1,890 farmers—far surpassing the initial target of 1,000.
Phase Two will now shift focus to the North Central region, further expanding the program’s reach. Dr. David called on stakeholders and participants to collaborate in revolutionizing Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
A Step Toward Sustainable Agriculture
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s agricultural development, providing farmers with the knowledge and tools needed to thrive in a competitive market. The NNPC Foundation remains committed to fostering sustainable farming practices and improving livelihoods nationwide.
