OAKONSULT Launches Specialized Care Center for Children with Disabilities in Ogbomoso

NGO Addresses Critical Need for Cerebral Palsy Support Services

In a transformative move for disability care in Nigeria, OAKONSULT Disabilities Outreach has launched an ambitious campaign to establish OAK Center Prime – a specialized facility for children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

A Vision for Inclusive Care

At a recent Lagos press conference, OluFunke Adeloye, Chief Responsibility Officer of OAKONSULT, highlighted Nigeria’s urgent need for dedicated disability care facilities. “This initiative goes beyond addressing a service gap – it’s about empowering children to reach their full potential,” Adeloye stated.

The proposed center will combine therapy, education, and recreation in a nurturing environment designed specifically for children with disabilities. The facility aims to serve both residents and day-care participants, with capacity for:

• 250 resident children and young adults
• 1,000 annual beneficiaries
• Comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services

A Personal Mission

Adeloye shared her emotional journey caring for her late daughter, Oluwatoyintan Chikatara Abigail Adeloye, who lived with cerebral palsy for 16 years. “When Abigail suffered brain damage at 18 months, our lives changed forever. Her story proves that with proper care, these children can thrive.”

Call for National Support

The organization is rallying community support to break ground by April 22, 2025. Advisory board members emphasized the project’s broader significance:

“This center will bridge critical care gaps while changing societal perceptions about disability,” said Mrs. Tosin Oyewole, board member.

“We’re building more than a facility – we’re creating a support ecosystem for caregivers and professionals,” added Prince Adedeji Irawo.

Advocating for Policy Changes

Adeloye called for government action to make therapy accessible and reduce stigma:

• Inclusive education policies
• Nationwide awareness campaigns
• Support for caregiver communities
