Senator Oshiomhole Confident Tinubu Would Win If Election Held Today
APC Chieftain Cites Security and Economic Reforms as Key Achievements
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win decisively if a presidential election were held today. The former Edo State governor made this declaration while discussing the recent defection of Kebbi senators to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.
Tinubu’s Achievements in Security and Economy
Oshiomhole highlighted President Tinubu’s bold reforms, particularly in improving security and stabilizing the economy. He noted that before Tinubu’s administration, farmers in certain regions couldn’t access their farms due to insecurity, but now agricultural activities have resumed in many areas.
“Among the senators that rejoined the APC, one of them said that before President Tinubu came to power, people from his senatorial zone could not go to the farm because of insecurity,” Oshiomhole stated. “Now his people can farm again – that’s a major achievement.”
Economic Reforms and Exchange Rate Stability
The senator also praised Tinubu’s economic policies, specifically mentioning reforms in the foreign exchange market. He criticized the previous system where privileged individuals received preferential exchange rates from the Central Bank.
“President Tinubu abolished the corrupt system where connected individuals got dollars at N350 while ordinary Nigerians suffered,” Oshiomhole explained. “Now everyone, including the president himself, gets the same exchange rate.”
Oshiomhole Takes Swipe at Atiku Over Party Defections
Turning to political matters, Oshiomhole suggested that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would be the best person to write a book about party defections, given his history of switching political parties.
“Atiku left Obasanjo in PDP to join our party ACN, then returned to PDP to contest against Jonathan, and later joined APC,” Oshiomhole recalled. “I think he’s the most qualified to explain why politicians defect.”
The senator challenged claims that politicians are coerced into changing parties, using Atiku’s political journey as an example of voluntary decisions.
