Freetown, Sierra Leone – May 7, 2025 – President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has emerged as a leading advocate for global reform, delivering a powerful address at the Third Africa High-Level Forum on South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Development.
Global Leaders Gather for Transformative Dialogue
The prestigious forum, taking place from May 7-9 at Freetown’s International Conference Centre, brings together policymakers, ministers, experts, and youth leaders from across Africa and the Global South. Organized by the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in collaboration with major international partners, the event focuses on reshaping global governance structures.
A Call for Systemic Change
In his keynote address titled “The Role of the Global South in Reshaping the New International Order,” President Bio demanded fundamental changes to what he described as outdated and biased global systems. “Africa is not only invited to sit at the table—we are building the table and creating opportunities for ourselves,” he declared to enthusiastic applause.
Sierra Leone as a Model for Progress
President Bio highlighted Sierra Leone’s national reforms including the Feed Salone initiative, Youth Employment Scheme, and public sector modernization as examples of successful homegrown solutions aligned with both AU Agenda 2063 and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
International Support for South-South Cooperation
The Algerian Prime Minister echoed these sentiments, praising Sierra Leone’s leadership and emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation for economic development and stability. The summit concluded with renewed commitment among member states to prioritize equity and sustainable development in global governance.
