President Mnangagwa has praised former Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Kirsty Coventry for making history as the first African and first female president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Speaking at a State House banquet honoring her achievement, the President described Coventry’s election as a landmark moment for Zimbabwe, the SADC region, and the entire African continent.

From Olympic Champion to Global Sports Leader

The President highlighted Coventry’s remarkable journey from seven-time Olympic medalist to the highest office in global sports governance, calling it proof of her resilience and determination.

“Your election is a testament that Africa is ready to lead,” President Mnangagwa said. “Breaking records is in your nature, and you have done it again.”

Transformational Leadership Recognized

President Mnangagwa commended Coventry’s contributions to:

• Developing sports infrastructure in Zimbabwe
• Guiding national teams to success in global competitions
• Increasing Zimbabwe’s presence in international sporting events
