President Ramaphosa Launches SIU Corruption Investigation Into State IT Agency

President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorized the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to launch a corruption probe into the State IT Agency (Sita). The investigation follows allegations of maladministration and irregularities in procurement processes.

Scope of the Investigation

The SIU will focus on the procurement of a turnkey asset management software solution. Key areas of scrutiny include:

  • Compliance with National Treasury guidelines
  • Potential irregularities or lack of transparency
  • Wasteful expenditure
  • Unlawful conduct by Sita employees or suppliers

Investigation Timeline

The probe will cover activities from 13 July 2017 to 16 May 2025, including any relevant conduct before or after this period.

“Evidence of criminal conduct uncovered during the investigation will be referred to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).”

The SIU has the authority to:
