International Conference on Smart Education
UBEC Executive Secretary Dr. Aisha Garba made this announcement during the International Conference on Smart Education and Digital Literacy in Abuja. The event, themed “Empowering African Smart Education Through Emerging Technologies,” brought together participants from across Africa and beyond to discuss innovative approaches to education.
Partnership with KOICA for Smart Education
Garba revealed UBEC’s strategic partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to transition from traditional hardware-focused infrastructure to advanced smart systems. This collaboration leverages Nigeria’s growing technological capabilities and improving internet connectivity.
“This conference provides a valuable platform to share best practices with international partners and strengthen regional cooperation in education technology,” Garba stated.
Nigeria’s Progress in Smart Education
The UBEC chief highlighted Nigeria’s achievements in digital education, including the establishment of 36 smart schools – one in each state – equipped with cutting-edge technology, modern studios, and trained educators. She noted that countries like Rwanda have successfully implemented AI in classrooms, serving as models for Nigeria’s digital education transformation.
Commitment to Inclusive Digital Education
Garba emphasized UBEC’s dedication to creating technology-enabled basic education schools nationwide: “We are working tirelessly with stakeholders to ensure technology provides equitable access to quality education across Nigeria, leaving no child behind.”
KOICA’s Support and Measurable Results
KOICA Country Director Mr. Kim Eunsub reaffirmed Korea’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s education system, particularly in STEM subjects. He shared compelling results from recent assessments: “Students in KOICA-supported smart schools consistently outperformed their peers in mathematics and science.” Kim expressed optimism about scaling these successes nationwide to improve overall learning outcomes.
