NAIVASHA, Kenya – As the 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally concluded at Naivasha’s Hell’s Gate, local vendors joined rally drivers in celebration after experiencing an unprecedented economic boom during the four-day motorsport spectacle.

Economic Windfall for Local Businesses

Thousands of rally enthusiasts who descended on Naivasha since Thursday created a massive demand for goods and services, benefiting businesses ranging from small-scale vendors to established hospitality providers.

Teresia Wambui, a beverage vendor from Gilgil, Nakuru County, reported record sales during the event: “The hot weather made my stock of 200ml Coke, Fanta, and Sprite sell out every hour. Coca-Cola’s support with restocking ensured I never ran out of supplies.”

Strategic Vendor Support

Wambui revealed she woke up at 5 am daily to secure prime locations near rally viewing spots. Peter Mwangi, another Naivasha-based vendor, credited Coca-Cola’s provision of coolers and subsidized stock for maximizing his profits.

Weslene Orwoba, Senior Marketing Manager at Coca-Cola Kenya, explained their strategy: “We partnered with KCB for this year’s rally to support vendors in remote areas where distribution points are scarce. Our mobile units ensured they could capitalize on the event’s economic opportunities.”

Beyond Beverages: Wider Economic Impact

The rally’s economic benefits extended far beyond soft drink sales. Establishments offering nyama choma, alcoholic beverages, and accommodation services reported significant revenue increases, with many Airbnb rentals and hotels operating at full capacity throughout the event.
