Former Zimbabwean Football Star Takesure Chinyama Honored in Poland
Legia Warsaw Preserves Ex-Striker’s Boots in Club Museum
HARARE – While former Zimbabwean footballer Takesure Chinyama may no longer be in the spotlight in his home country or South Africa, where he played for Orlando Pirates, his legacy remains strong in Poland.
His former club, Legia Warsaw, has framed and displayed the Adidas boots he wore during the 2008/09 Ekstraklasa season in their museum – a rare honor for any footballer.
Golden Boot Winner Outshines Lewandowski
During that remarkable season, Chinyama made history by becoming the first non-European player to win the Polish league’s Golden Boot award. He tied with Paweł Brożek, both scoring 19 goals – five more than Polish legend Robert Lewandowski managed that season.
The boots were recently featured in a video shared on social media by UK-based journalist Chipo Sabeta, bringing attention to Chinyama’s impressive achievement that often goes unrecognized in African football circles.
Transition to Coaching
Now based permanently in Poland, the former Dynamos and Orlando Pirates striker has transitioned into coaching. He was recently appointed as a coach at Polish academy KS Bibiczanka, where he’ll work with youth teams from under-13 to under-18 levels.
“Takesure Chinyama begins his coaching career at the START Sport Academy and will support the further development of players training at the Football Academy KS Bibiczanka,” the club stated.
The Zimbabwean football legend has already obtained his CAF coaching license and is currently working towards his UEFA coaching badges, demonstrating his commitment to developing the next generation of football talent.
His journey from African football to European success and now into coaching serves as an inspiring example for aspiring footballers across the continent.
