Five-Day Intensive Program Aims to Strengthen Cybersecurity Capabilities
A significant five-day international Cyber Threat Intelligence training program has commenced in Ébène, Mauritius, bringing together cybersecurity experts from across the globe. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Avinash Ramtohul, Mauritius’ Minister of Technology, who emphasized the critical importance of this initiative for national and regional digital security.
International Collaboration for Cybersecurity Excellence
The training program, organized by CERT-MU (Mauritius Computer Emergency Response Team) in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), runs through July 4, 2025. Funded substantially by the European Union, the program features participation from distinguished cybersecurity professionals representing multiple nations including Djibouti, Nigeria, and India.
Minister Ramtohul highlighted the program’s dual focus during his opening address: “This initiative serves to not only enhance cybersecurity competencies within our institutions and businesses but also improves our collective capacity for threat detection and incident response – capabilities that are increasingly vital in our interconnected digital landscape.”
Government’s Commitment to Digital Security
The Minister reaffirmed the Mauritian government’s steadfast commitment to digital development, noting ongoing efforts to modernize cybersecurity legislation and data governance frameworks. “Our priority is creating a safer digital environment for all citizens and businesses,” Ramtohul stated.
Addressing Data Protection Compliance Gaps
A particularly concerning issue raised was the lack of Data Protection Officers (DPOs) in Mauritian businesses. “With over 16,000 companies currently non-compliant with data protection regulations, we’re facing significant vulnerabilities in our national data security infrastructure,” the Minister warned, urging immediate action from the business community.
Digital Transformation Roadmap
The Minister also outlined Mauritius’ Digital Transformation Blueprint, a strategic framework designed to guide businesses through their digital evolution. “Adapting to emerging technologies and meeting the digital service expectations of our youth population are critical components of our national strategy,” Ramtohul explained.
These coordinated efforts aim to elevate Mauritius’ position in global digital rankings, enhancing the island nation’s appeal to international investors and tech talent. The cybersecurity training program represents a key component of this broader digital transformation agenda.
Key Program Highlights:
- Duration: July 1-5, 2025
