Building Research Expertise

David Mkwambisi, Director of MUST’s Institute of Industrial Research and Innovation, explained the collaboration focuses on developing researcher capacity, particularly among emerging scholars, to produce policy-relevant studies.

“This partnership ensures researchers generate evidence for governments and stakeholders to make informed decisions,” Mkwambisi stated.

Strategic Research Focus Areas

As Future Earth’s Southern Africa regional hub, MUST will prioritize research addressing Malawi’s critical challenges including:

  • Climate change adaptation
  • Sustainable development
  • Poverty reduction

  • Address Africa’s pressing challenges

MUST’s Research Vision

The partnership aligns with MUST’s commitment to STEM-focused research and innovation, leveraging Future Earth’s global network to strengthen Malawi’s research ecosystem.

Addressing National Challenges

This collaboration comes as Malawi makes significant investments in research infrastructure and STEM education to tackle development obstacles through evidence-based approaches.

The partnership represents a major step in building Malawi’s research capacity to inform national policy and sustainable development strategies.
