Nigeria Faces Deepening Economic Crisis as Rights Group Calls for Urgent Government Action
IHRC-RFT Warns of Worsening Humanitarian and Economic Emergency
The International Human Rights Commission–Relief Fund Trust (IHRC-RFT), Nigeria Chapter, has raised an urgent alarm over Nigeria’s escalating economic crisis and humanitarian emergency. The group is calling on the Federal Government to take decisive steps to address the growing suffering of citizens.
Dire Economic Conditions Affecting All Nigerians
In a statement signed by Director Ambassador Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu, the IHRC-RFT expressed deep concern about Nigeria’s rising cost of living, stagnant wages, and increasing poverty levels. The crisis is impacting all sectors of society—from civil servants and business owners to farmers, youths, and the unemployed.
The organization highlighted how surging prices of goods and services, without matching income growth, have created severe hardships for families nationwide. Many Nigerians now struggle with food insecurity, limited healthcare access, and economic despair.
Government Urged to Prioritize Citizen Welfare
Ambassador Adamu emphasized that the situation transcends economics—it’s fundamentally about human dignity. He called for immediate policy reviews on critical issues like fuel prices, electricity tariffs, and taxation to provide relief to struggling citizens.
“Governments are instituted to secure the welfare and dignity of their citizens,” the statement read. “That sacred duty must be upheld.”
Growing Calls for Economic Intervention
The IHRC-RFT joins numerous civil society organizations demanding urgent government action to address Nigeria’s economic challenges and prevent further social instability. The group urged patriotic Nigerians to unite in advocating for humane governance and economic justice.
As the crisis deepens, all eyes remain on government response to these pressing humanitarian concerns.
