Osun Political Crisis: NNPP Demands Adeleke’s Ouster, PDP Counters with Governance Achievements

Tension in Osun as NNPP Calls for Adeleke’s Removal, PDP Defends Governor’s Record

Political Clash Over Osun State Governance

Political tensions are escalating in Osun State as the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) engage in heated exchanges over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, with both parties already positioning for the 2026 governorship election.

NNPP Demands Governor’s Removal

Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, NNPP state chairman, called for Adeleke’s removal on Monday, accusing the governor of running a directionless administration focused on personal gain rather than public welfare.

“Osun deserves better than the present governor,” Odeyemi stated. “We need a leader with governance expertise who can transcend political sentiments to deliver real progress.”

The opposition leader urged political stakeholders to unite behind a credible candidate, warning that failure to do so could hinder Osun’s development.

PDP Fires Back, Defends Achievements

The PDP swiftly countered the criticism, dismissing Odeyemi’s remarks as politically motivated. Oladele Bamiji, the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, defended Adeleke’s record.

“The governor’s achievements speak volumes,” Bamiji asserted. “From infrastructure to healthcare and workers’ welfare, this administration has demonstrated its commitment to Osun people.”

Key Development Projects Cited

The ruling party highlighted several accomplishments:

  • Over 200km of completed road projects
  • State’s first flyover in Ilé-Ifè
  • New dual carriageway and two Osogbo flyovers
  • Clearance of salary arrears
  • Free health insurance for pensioners and persons with disabilities
  • Rehabilitation of 200+ health centers

The PDP concluded: “If Odeyemi can’t acknowledge these achievements, he’s clearly blinded by political bitterness.”

2026 Election Battle Lines Drawn

With both parties taking firm positions, the political landscape in Osun State appears set for intense competition as the 2026 elections approach.
