Somali Woman Arrested in Nairobi for Alleged Support of Terrorist Group

NAIROBI, Kenya — Detectives from Kenya’s Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) have arrested Asho Kassim Hassan, a Somali woman suspected of soliciting and providing support to a terrorist group, authorities said.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation that led investigators to her hideout on Major Muriithi Street in the Eastleigh neighborhood of Nairobi.

During the operation, police recovered a passport and a mobile phone, both of which are now in the custody of forensic analysts for further examination to help identify the broader network she may be linked to.

Hassan remains in custody and is undergoing processing pending arraignment.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by Kenyan authorities to safeguard the country through intensified intelligence operations, enhanced inter-agency coordination, and sustained community partnerships, ensuring residents, including Somali nationals living in Kenya, can carry out their daily lives safely.
