President Tinubu Appoints Disun Holloway to Lead Revitalized National Theatre
New Leadership for Nigeria’s Premier Cultural Hub
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr. Disun Holloway as Chairman of Theatre Partners, the governing body tasked with managing operations at the newly revitalized National Theatre in Lagos, now officially renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts.
Experienced Leader Takes the Helm
Mr. Holloway brings extensive experience to the role, having previously served as Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism and Intergovernmental Affairs. With decades of leadership in culture, governance, and the creative economy, he is widely recognized as a passionate advocate for the arts and cultural preservation.
Historic Renovation Completed
The appointment coincides with the completion of a N68 billion renovation project led by the Bankers’ Committee under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Originally projected to take nine months, the comprehensive restoration ultimately required six years due to the complex nature of the work and pandemic-related delays.
The revitalized National Theatre now stands as a world-class cultural facility, ready to serve as Nigeria’s premier destination for performing arts, cultural exchange, and creative enterprise.
Vision for the Future
As Chairman, Holloway will oversee sustainable management strategies for this national landmark, collaborating with government agencies, private sector partners, and creative industry stakeholders. His leadership aims to fully realize the Theatre’s potential as both an artistic hub and economic driver.
Industry observers view this appointment as signaling the government’s renewed commitment to Nigeria’s cultural renaissance and the growing importance of creative industries in national development.
